Today we went to the Blueberry Patch in Missouri. The weather was absolutely beautiful at a cool 72 degrees. We went last July and I believe it was 102 degrees :-) The boys had fun picking the berries, but had more fun playing in the dirt! Wednesday was Chad's birthday. I think the greatest gift he received was hearing both boys say (200 times) "Happy Birthday, Daddy". Two days later they are still saying it, but it's cute just the same. The boys had a great 4th of July! Although Tyler was a bit frightened of the fireworks, Jackson thought they were "cool" and "awesome"! Here they are waiting for the firework show with their cousin. 3 good lookin' boys!

Happy Father's Day

I'm wishing Chad a happy Father's Day from myself and his boys :-) We hope you have a great day! Here are a couple of pictures of Jackson trying to walk around in Chad's new work shoes!

I start a new part time, work from home job on Monday. Although I'm not looking forward to the added stress of trying to work and still put my family first, I think the 20 hours a week will make it doable. I will be going into the office on Mondays, which will now become Mr. Mom Monday's as Chad and the boys will have a day together every week. I think this will be wonderful as the male/father influence is much needed at this age. The rest of the week I'll be a Mommy first and then working when the boys are sleeping... which, unfortunately, will cut into my time with Chad at night.... but, hey, we can't have it all at the same time. I feel very, very blessed to have found the perfect setup that I've been looking for for 6.5 months. So, Monday starts yet another chapter in our lives.

Shatto Milk Dairy Farm

Yesterday a few friends and I make the 2nd annual long truck up to Shatto Milk Dairy Farm ( http://www.shattomilk.com/ ). The long drive is worth it and the boys, much like last year, had a blast. Although they wanted nothing to do with the big mama cows, they loved the "baby cows" and insisted on feeding them hay - although I kept telling them it was for the cows to sleep on, not eat. We got home around 2:30pm so I only allowed them to nap for 1 hour so our afternoon was a a bit cranky.

I took the boys to see their first movie today. Unfortunately, I only had my camera phone, so I don't have very good pictures. We saw Madagascar 2 and they were both pretty mesmerized by the big screen. They lasted almost an hour which was 40 mins longer than I thought they would. I was very proud of them. They wanted to talk and dance around, but they never screamed and cried, so it was a good time!

Once again, I blame the lack of posts on the great weather! Memorial weekend we had our 3rd Annual Auerbach Memorial BBQ. It was such a blast and the boys had a great time with their little friends. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures. Last weekend the boys and I went to Abilene to visit my family and to just hang out. This is the first time since our botched trip to San Diego that I attempted to sleep over somewhere other than home. The boys slept pretty well. It only took Jackson about 30 mins to fall asleep in his Batman sleeping bag, and Tyler took about an hour. They slept a good 8 hours which I consider a success! I definitely think the sleepovers at Grandma's are helping. We plan to go back to San Diego again at the end of the year. While the boys had fun playing in their cousins Slip 'n Slide, they had a blast at Grandma and Grandpa's farm. My dad took them on a tractor ride and they both got to feed the horses. It was a great weekend, but it's always nice to come home. The boys missed Daddy and I think Daddy really missed his boy :-)

Last Week ...

Last week Chad and I took the boys to have their blood drawn as part of their 2 year well baby check. Taking the boys to get shots by myself is never easy, so I knew having blood drawn definitely would not be something I could do solo as blood makes me light headed. Jackson went first and cried for about 5 seconds and was fine! I couldn't believe how well he did. Tyler went last and to both myself and Chad's amazement, Tyler didn't make a peep. He looked a little annoyed at the nurse, but never made a sound... perhaps he is our future doctor :-) Parents as Teacher's came over on Wednesday and our "teacher" thinks the boys are doing great. Tyler's speech is right on target and Jackson seems to be a little advanced. I love having her come over every 5 week to asses them. The boys and I also did a lot of garage sale-ing last week. Tyler had his little mind fixated on a Tonka Dump Truck. When at first he told me he didn't want it, we continued on to the next homes. He cried and cried for "DUMP TRUCK" that I decided to go back and buy the thing for $1!!! I made his day :-) Jackson had his last swim lesson on Saturday and has graduated to the next class when he turns 3. Tyler starts lessons in a few weeks.

Park Play Time

The boys and I hit Antioch Park after they woke up from their nap yesterday. Even though they have this great new playset in our back yard, I like to take them to the park where they can socialize with other kiddos, and I can meet other Mommies. It never takes the boys too long to make friends. They met a little boy who had sidewalk chalk and all 3 went to town. It was great watching them play and the weather was unspeakably gorgeous! Tomorrow Jackson has swim lessons and then I think we'll hit the City Market for some fun in the afternoon until Daddy comes home. Today I'm dead tired as Tyler woke up at 4:00 am (on the dot) and decided it was time to start the day. I tried naping when they naped, but somehow I'm programed to not take naps as my mind wonders and I can never settle down. So, I didn't let Tyler take more than a 2 hour nap this afternoon in the hopes he'll sleep soundly tonight. He's really been having some sleeping issues and I'm wondering if something in his room might be scaring him. Last week we had to put a TV in his room (it only gets one channel and its' super fuzzy) and now Haley the dog sleeps by his side which has seemed to help.

Sorry to be a bad blogger. I have to blame it on the beautiful Kansas City weather we've been having. The boys are doing great! Each day they seem to give me a new reason to smile and a new reason to be so grateful for them. They are growing and talking A LOT. In fact, as they seem to get older their individual personalities bloom. Uncle Terry finished putting up the boys' swingset and they have been playing on it every day since then. It's great that they can play outside while I get chores done inside. I promise to post more pictures soon and update more often. I've been spring cleaning which seems to take up what LITTLE free time I have.

I was telling Chad the story yesterday about how Tyler, at our Mommy and Me class, had a slight run-in with a fellow 2 year old boy. Another little boy was having a rough morning and seemingly out of nowhere, kicked Tyler right in the knee. My first reaction was, "Tyler, defend yourself... kick him back!" Instead, Tyler quietly walked to the other side of the room and promptly kicked the little boy's mommy and then turned around and walked back to the other side of the room and went back to playing with his blocks. Classic moment indeed and I will be writing this one down in his baby book! After I told Chad this story and we both had a big chuckle, he said that Tyler must be apart of some Jewish Mafia where you go after the perpetrator's family. HA! As I drove, I was listening to Dr. Laura. (withhold any prejudices you may have against her for just a minute) I've listened to her on and off since I was a teenager, and she is hands-down the #1 cheerleader of the stay-at-home mom, and I love her for that. It's amazing the number of comments or insinuations you get from all kinds of people when they find out you "just" stay at home with your kids. But, I can always count on Dr. Laura to be an encouraging reminder of all the reasons I do what I do. Yesterday, she was talking about (of all things!) being a mom. And she said the most simplistic and touching thing. She said that moms are able to create moments of beauty out of the chaos that is a family just by raising their kids, loving their husbands, and filling a home with all the intangible things a woman can when she puts her heart into it (total paraphrase). That's it! That is what I strive to do every day. Create beauty for the boys and Chad by loving and nurturing and guiding and teaching and trying to be a better me for them. I know this isn't the cute kids stuff I usually record, but it's something that I want to remember so you've all been subjected to it. I hope you have your own wonderful mommy moment today with your kids, too.

Frantic Mommy

This afternoon my wonderful husband sent out a handyman to fix our washing machine. After sorting the days worth of backed up laundry and putting a load in, I went to go fix the boys a snack only to find Jackson nowhere in sight. After a frantic search around the house I looked outside in the back yard to find him sitting on his tricycle with his favorite blanket, sucking his thumb in the beautiful sunshine. Ahhhhh... although my heart skipped a beat, it was a precious sight!

Imagination

I love the imagination that forms in toddlers at this age. This morning (right before my washing machine broke and my laundry room was covered in water) I got to quietly stand back and watch the boys create a "choo choo train" out of my kitchen chairs. How cute is that?!? Jackson screams "ALL ABOARD" and Tyler then screams "CHOO CHOO". Little boys just crack me up! Oh yes.. the boys both got haircuts on Friday and they look soooo much better. I think it makes them look like little men.

I can already envision one of the boys breaking a leg, ankle, or arm jumping off this swingset. Actually, I can see Tyler ENCOURAGING Jackson to jump off the top of the swingset. I know it will provide them endless hours of entertainment and will likely be the gathering spot for the neighborhood kids, but as a mom I can't help but worry. Luckily, I have a very crafty and generous family! My brother, brother-in-law, and dad worked on the swingset most of the weekend however, mother nature did not cooperate. Due to the rain/snow they had to call it quits today until next weekend. I was able to snap several photos of the "Men at Work"!

Twins' Stats / "I Farmer"

I can remember vividly those emotional 31 days the twins were in the NICU - watching them grow slowly, learning how to "suck, swallow, breathe", and moving off a ventilator, to the C Pap, and eventually graduating to the nasal cannula. I remember like it was yesterday holding Tyler and one of his wonderfully, amazing NICU Nurses telling me "by 2 years old, they'll be all caught up... you'll see". I couldn't even think that far ahead, but always held that in the back of my mind. Boy was she right! The boys had their 2 year well baby check on Monday. Tyler is 30lbs (76%) and is in the 95 percintile for height! Jackson is our bruiser and is at a whoping 31.6 lbs (84%) and 84 percintile for heighth. It's so had for me to belive they were once only 4lbs.... I truly feel like we've graduated to the toddler stage and they'll kepp marching on. ------- The boys and I also went to their Great Grandparents' home on Sunday to celebrate my Grandma's birthday. They really had a great time with all their cousins (my father is one of thirteen... so LOTS of cousins!). My Dad took us for a tractor ride through the cows and Tyler got to "drive". He couldn't have been happier! The continued to say the rest of the day "I Farmer"! Soooooo cute!!! In addition to the tractor ride, both boys also got to ride a horse. Needless to say, they had a wonderful time!

We have had a burst of beautiful Spring-like weather lately and the boys and I have been taking advantage of it. I think we spent every day last week in the park except for Sunday. The boys have had little head colds which have prevented them from sleeping, but no cough and no fever. Next weekend Grandpa and Uncle Terry are coming to KC to put together the boys new swingset. I truly can't wait to see their faces once it's put together. Here are a few pictures of us in the park!

Fire Station

I had the best time taking the boys to the Mission Fire Department this morning. The event was organized by the Shawnee Mission's Parents as Teacher's (fabulous organization) and was full of little tykes 3 and under like my two. Tyler couldn't quite grasp how big the fire truck was. He literally stood next to me and stared at it for 45 seconds and then decided he had to be INSIDE the truck! Jackson was crazy about it, too. Although his fascination came with the fire hat more than anything :-) After that we went down to the restaurant and had lunch with Daddy and the boys were able to show off their new hats and badges. Tonight the boys are having their first sleepover at Grandma's. I'm really hoping it goes well because we like to try a trip back to San Diego this year. I bought them new Batman sleeping bags which they are crazy about! They are all boy! Chad and I are looking forward to a romantic dinner and uniterrupted sleep tonight.... Ahhhh... i

Lost Camera Charger

I have not been able to take many pictures of the boys lately because I misplaced the charger. Until I find it I will have to resort to my cell phone camera. I'm hoping Chad will buy me a new one for Mother's Day anyhow (hint! hint!). The boys have been doing great! I'm amazed at Tyler's willingness to potty in the potty chair daily. If only I could get him to do #2 in there, I would put him in big boy underpants. Unfortunately, Tyler has his 2 year molar teeth coming in which are causing him great pain and his parents some sleepless nights. Since he was a baby he never really cried unless something was seriously wrong with him. For 3 days straight he was crying constantly until we finally figured out those darn molars were coming in. We've had him dosed with Motrin since then and we finally have our sweet Tyler back. Jackson has had a burst in his vocabulary! I think this age of 2 years old is great... I'm going to call it the "terrific twos" until we run into constant tantrums because I think it's fantastic. Tonight I caught Jackson singing "Skip to My Lou" with one of his Elmo books. I was cracking up as he tried to sing ... it went something like "Skip, Lou.... Skip, Lou".. so, so cute! I love being home with the boys and I'm so thankful to Chad for allowing it to happen. Every moment the boys are absorbing information, developing habits, asking questions, and drawing conclusions... and I'm here to watch it all unfold, help create the habits and answer the questions! I truly have a wonderful life :-)

Yes! I am back from my 4 day vacation / cruise to the Bahama's. I really can't say enough great things about the Disney Cruise Line! This is my second year in a row and they seem to always out do themselves! My best friend from NYC works for Disney Publishing, so she gets a great discount on all things Disney. Unfortunately, while I was gone Tyler come down with a nasty stomach virus where he wasn't able to keep any food down. I had some severe mommy guilt while on the beach and my son was home sick. I decided to take an early flight home on Sunday where I was greeted with a projectile vomit hug from Tyler within the first 10 mins. Jackson woke up from his nap so excited to see me... he screamed "MOMMY HOME" and then looked at my mom (who was babysitting while I was away) and said "BYE BYE GRANDMA". It was so cute! Today Tyler seems to be better but is definitely weak. I had a very bumpy, turbulent flight home from Orlando that will probably keep me grounded for awhile. I'm so happy to be home with my family!

I guess I still can't believe we have two 2 year olds! The boys had a wonderful birthday party and mommy is wiped out.... I leave for a Bohemian cruise with my friend from NYC tomorrow. I will miss the boys and Chad like crazy, but I'm looking forward to not having any responsibilities for 3.5 days :-) Here are a few birthday pictures! Bad Blogger

Well, those who actually keep up with my blog (and there are surprisingly quite a few), I apologize for not doing a very good job. Our vacation to San Diego was unfortunately short lived as the boys refused to sleep.... period. After trying several different failed scenarios we gave up and took the next morning's flight back home. I have never been so sleep deprived (4 hours total in 48 hours) and the lack of sleep horrifically reminded me of those not so fun first 4 months of the boys' life. Chad and I realized once we returned home that the boys have never slept anywhere other than their cribs. They don't go to daycare and sleep on cots nor have the slept away at Grandma's so we think the abrupt move was too much for them. But, we are all back in KC happy and safe. Once we arrived back home, the boys slept for 15 straight hours! Unfortunately, we did not get to spend the quality time with my sister and her family. But my sister and nephew are coming to KC this week for the twins' 2nd birthday. In an effort to travel more smoothly, Grandma has graciously accepted my plea to have a sleep over with the boys at her house every month or so. The boys and I are going to go this week and pick out some cool sleeping bags that they will use one when staying at others environments. I'm really hoping this helps the transition so we can go to my parents' this summer and back to San Diego next winter. Valentine's Day was a great one and full of love! The boys and I baked cupcakes and delivered them to Daddy's work (and Daddy got to show off his handsome boys!). Although my cooking is slowly getting better, I am a much better baker. Grandma came over and Chad and I went on a date to 801 Chop House in the Power and Light District and had a fabulous meal (although the service was mediocre). I was pleasantly surprised with a hand written card from Chad (much better than a Hallmark one) that made me tear up... it was really sweet. Today the boys and I are home hanging out. Unfortunately, Chad and I both have colds and are praying we don't give it to the boys. They've had such a great healthy streak this winter (thanks to being inside the last 8 weeks and Jackson's new asthma meds) we hate to break it. Also, this morning, Tyler ran smack into the corner of our kitchen cabinet and has quite the nasty nugget on his head. I'm debating on taking him in to be checked out just in case. Head injuries always make me nervous, especally after that poor little 11 year old KC girl who hit her head in gym class and later passed away (http://www.kmbc.com/news/18214747/detail.html). Hmmm... I think I'll give Chad a call.

2 Year Photos

I tried it again - taking the boys to photo shoots with no help. That will be the last time until they are older. It was not a very good experience. Neither of them would sit still, the photographer was horrible, and I was getting impatient with the workers. I can say with certainty this was the worse set of pictures the boys have had since they were born. I blame it mostly on the photographer who managed to take a picture immediately after they smiled. Grrrr. And, to boot, it's suppose to rain the WHOLE time we're in San Diego. How is that for luck?!? I have no doubt we'll still have a wonderful family time.

Twin Mommys' Night Out

Last night, on Super Bowl Sunday, I saw "Revolutionary Road" with two girl friends (who both have twins). It's basically a movie around suburban discontent, so some of it did hit close to home; however, with the movie set in the 1950s, some of the concepts did not ring true to our lives today. Of all the things we found the most interesting about the movie, we couldn't get over how few times the kids are shown in the film - it's as if they barely exist (the children were neither seen nor heard in this movie!). This is just so unrealistic to us as moms - young kids are so needy, so demanding of one's time on a daily basis - that it made that part of the depicted suburban life ring a little false to us. If that is 1950s parenting style, then wow ... it would make you wonder how our parents turned out half decent with the lack of parental involvement. We leave for San Diego Wednesday night! We are looking forward to some much needed sun and family time!

Elmo Live - Round 2

I think it a requirement of all mother's to take their children to see Elmo sometime in their preschool years. I took the boys to see Elmo for the second time in two months today. They loved it and lasted much longer than I thought they would. Our last Elmo show we left a little early, but this time we had better seats and it was a bit more entertaining. Jackson and Tyler had a lot of fun and I always enjoy watching them attempt to dance (the highlight of my day - truly!). We leave for San Diego in a few days and the weather look spectacular!

First Dentist Visit

The boys had their very first Dentist appointment this morning and it went surprisingly well! I was super nervous about going by myself, but the boys behaved very well and really warmed up to the wonderful dentist (who has small children and has the same pediatrician as our boys do)! I was able to snap a few pictures of them watching Curious George while we waited patiently for the Dentist. Everything looks good and they go back in 6 months. They were so well behaved I'm debating on taking them both to get their hair cut when they wake up for their nap. Hmmmm... maybe I shouldn't push it! :-)

Stir Crazy

I am officially stir crazy! Although totally worth it, I haven't been out of the house for more than a couple hours in a month. I'm hoping the boys continue to stay well through February, then I might ask the doctor at their 2 year appointment if we can be released a month early for good behavior. I'm happy to report the boys have been exceptionally healthy. I've made sure they've been taking their vitamins every morning, eating healthy (mostly organic), and washing their hands often. In addition, Jackson new asthma medication has made a world of difference. This is the longest stretch he's gone since birth being this well. YAY! Here are a few pictures of the boys goofing off again at home yesterday - they crack me up all day long!

Trying their hand at dancing... Hmmmmm....

Tyler has been doing an awesome job of pottying in the potty chair. I still can't believe it's going to be this easy, so I'm trying to not get too excited. The thought of only having one in diapers is very exciting in itself! He's been going about once a day and is so proud of himself. Jackson shows no interest except to clap with us when Tyler goes on the potty. There are some pictures of the boys today... We had so much fun just hanging around "dancing" and playing music. They are at the age now where they actually go to their playroom and play with eachother and I can get some things done around the house - I never thought the day would come! I'm actually listening to them right now laughing so hard I can hardly wait to go downstairs and see what's so funny... I think I'll take my video camera with me.

Swingset and History

We ordered the boys new awesome swing set yesterday. We actually found the last one on clearance in Wichita, KS. They are kind enough to ship it to Overland Park store, so it won't arrive for at least 2 months. We figured the boys won't even be able to play on it for at least that many months anyhow. We ordered the Little Tikes Arcadia Ultimate Playground. I have a feeling there will be lots of neighborhood friends hanging out the the boys in our back yard. Here is a picture of it - remember we got it at a clearance price! Playground Pics Click Here This is the boys' 2nd birthday gift from their parents and grandma. I think they will get great use out of it! 2 weeks until we leave for San Diego - Woo Hoo! It's still 80 degrees out there and we're hoping it continues until we leave. And then once we come back we'll have the boys birthday party and then I leave for a girls' weekend trip to the Bahamas - another Woo Hoo! Although I did not vote for President Obama (nor am I a Democrat), I still had great pride while watching and listening to the inauguration. How amazing that my children live in a country such as this one. I'm very proud to be an American! I will always teach my boys to show respect for the office of the presidency regardless of their political views... and when the President is on TV and talking - you listen (as my dad made us growing up)! So on Tuesday they were made to watch a little of the inauguration to the extent their small attention span could handle. I hope even better things are to come for our children's' future. Last night the boys were eating blueberry applesause and were not very careful about it. Chad was giving them a bath afterwards, so I didn't sweat it; instead, I took pictures!

Single Parenting Day #3

There isn't much going on at the Auerbach house today. It's snowed an inch this morning and it's freezing outside. Due to a couple nasty emails I got last night I couldn't sleep (even took a Xanax which I'm only to use when I fly) and woke up at 5am so I'm slightly exhausted. I did wake up this morning to the downstairs heater not working and the thermostat reading 54 degrees! I quickly called a heating company who told me to go downstairs and see if the reset button was on or off. Who knew heaters had reset buttons? They were right! I forgot that Jackson and Tyler got into my office where the heater is the other day and made a mess - they must have turned the switch. Whew! Luckily I didn't have to pay $60 for someone to come out and tell me that! Tonight cousin Julian and Aunt Amy are coming over for pizza. Julian's daddy and Jackson and Tyler's daddy are in Las Vegas together so it's a perfect opportunity to combine forces. They come back tomorrow so hopefully I can get a day or two of sleeping in :-)

As suspected, Jackson and Tyler asked for Daddy last night at dinner time and again this morning when they woke up. I've been telling them "Daddy went on an airplane" which Tyler replies (as he pretends to be an airplane himself ) "No Mommy - wuk" a.ka. work! So cute! I accidentally poured a cup of cold water over Jackson's head last night while giving them a bath. Jackson freaked out and I thought he was going to have a stroke. I felt so badly that I started to cry; bad mommy! Luckily, he's very forgiving and didn't skimp on any of his good night kisses. Today is so insanely cold that even letting our dog out to potty makes me shiver. Speaking of potty, Tyler went again this morning in the potty chair! He's doing so great and I'm hoping Jackson will get the hang of it as well. Although, potty training them seperately is okay with me. The amount of money we spend on diapers each month is crazy and I'd like to have that money back as quickly as possible. So, for now I'll continue to encourage Tyler to potty. This morning the boys were goofing around and "wrestling". There is nothing better than watching brothers goof around - so cute! Here are some pictures of our morning. Single Parenting Day #1

Chad left this morning for work and then to the airport for Las Vegas. He'll be gone for 5 whole days and I know the boys (and I) will miss him dearly. Today the boys and I are going our normal routine but I imagine around 5pm and dinner time, they are going to say "where Daddy". Chad is great about getting on the floor and playing "boy rough" with them and they love it. Mommy isn't quite as strong to have them crawling and jumping all over me. It's going to be a long 5 days but I guess it will make me realize more the importance of father's for many different reasons. Monday I went and saw "The Reader" with another twin mommy friend whose husband is out of town on business, too. It was an amazing movie and can see why Kate Winslet won a Golden Globe for it. I read the book in college (for fun - nerd) and the move did it justice. So... wish me luck! 5 days without any outside help should be interesting. Luckily the boys take long afternoon naps and are in bed and asleep by 7:30pm so it shouldn't be too bad. Love, you Chad! Your munchies will miss you!

Organic Apples and Books

Jackson has recently discovered a LOVE for apples! He eats 2-3 every day and wakes up in the morning saying "aaaapulll". He eats the apple whole and leaves only the core, seeds, and stem. Here is a before and after picture. We are officially counting down the days until our San Diego, CA beach trip to go see my sister and her family. We can't wait for that California sunshine. As of today we are 23 days away and counting. Chad and I are praying the flight out there and back goes much smoother than last year when the boys were barely a year old. The logistics of traveling with 2 infants was more than we could bare! But, the boys are almost 2 so we hope we can keep them entertained for the 2.5 hour flight there and back - and if not, Benadryl is our back up plan! Chad leaves for a business / pleasure trip to Las Vegas on Wednesday (it's definitely more pleasure than business). I will be flying solo with out any help for 4 days. So tomorrow night I'm going to a movie with another twin mommy friend ( http://www.multiplesmania.blogspot.com/ ) whose husband will also be out of town next week on business. Hibernation

Here are some pictures of the boys playing with Daddy yesterday. I have to laugh because as soon as Chad walks in the door from work, Jackson and Tyler run to the living room and fall to the ground waiting for "my Daddy" to get on the floor and play. It's really quite cute!

We've started the long 3 month winter of hibernation. Many friends and some family have asked why we are keeping the boys inside and away from crowds, etc. I found this article ( click here ) last night which should answer most, if not all question. Although against our doctor's advise, we decided not to do Synagis this year, but we are able to take some prevenative measures instead. Since Jackson was diagnosed with Asthma in September and has been on control medicine every day ( Pulmicort ), he has yet to have another asthma attack or cough - so I think we're are on the right track! This is the longest stretch he's been well sinc birth.

Fun Times and Potty Time

My best friend from Brooklyn came to visit us while she was in town visiting her in-laws. We had such a fun time taking the boys to the park and just hanging out. She left this afternoon, but we are meeting in Orlando in February to take our 2nd Annual "girls only" cruise to the Bahamas. The boys have had a rought 3-4 days as we have deviated from their normal daily routine. I never understood how hard this was for toddlers and how they crave the normalcy of our days. Thursday starts the first day of our 3 month lockdown at home. I have some ideas on how to keep us entertained and occupied through these winter months. I also plan to start the potty training and hope it doesn't take too long. Jackson and Tyler started practing how to sit on the potty!

3rd Night of Hanukkah

Last night the boys opened up a gift from their parents. An Elmo/Cookie Monster Vacuum! They loved it, although it's a bit short for them and the handle doesn't expand. The box said 18 months +, so I assumed it would work. Oh, well.... And before the questions start as to why I buy them the SAME gifts - it's because it saves Chad and I the headache of them fighting over the toys. Believe me... other parents of twins totally get this and do the same! Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa!

The Auerbach Band! ROCK ON!

The boys had a wonderful first night of Hanukkah. We celebrated with Chad's mom, step-mom, dad and a few other close friends and family. The boys already received quite a number of gifts and tonight is only #3. The boys will finally get to open a gift from their Mommy and Daddy tonight and light candles at home (and get to bed at their normal bedtime) Due to the rain/ice/snow mix today, the restaurant holiday party was canceled. I'm kind of sad because I know Chad wanted to show the twins off to everyone, but I'm glad I don't have to get out in this mess!

My heart truly aches for little Caylee Anthony. I pray she rests in peace and knows that G-d will protect as her mother could not. She reminds me so much of my 4 year old niece, Tessa. Sadly, today was our last Nursery School "Mommy and Me" class. Daddy came to the boys' Hanukkah Party and had a great time. Our Winter Plans

Below is a picture of the boys at the Hanukkah party at our Synagogue. They had a lot of fun! As you can see from the pictures, the jelly donuts were their favorite :-)

Today the boys and I are hanging out at home and having so much fun. We've had a great week going to our "Mommy and Me" nursery school two days a week where Jackson can (clearly) name all his "classmates". Unfortunately, next week will be our last week as we migrate into quarantine for the winter. After much dilemma and discussion, Chad and I decided not to give the boys the monthly Synagis injection to help prevent RSV. It's rather common for preemies to receive this the first two flu seasons. Because they spent their first 15 months of life getting constant injections between normal vaccines and the monthly Synagis in the winter, we decided to opt out this year and we're hoping we don't regret it. As a compromise, both their doctors urged us to keep them inside and away from school aged children as much as possible - needless to say, the doctors weren't happy with our decision, but respect it. It makes me kind of feel like one of those parents who choose not to vaccinate ;-) I can only imagine how they feel when announcing that to their child's pediatrician. I hate getting out in the winter, so I don't foresee it being too horrible; besides, Chad and I would do anything to keep them well so it's a very small price to pay. We're making a few exceptions which includes our annual beach trip to San Diego where we get to visit the boys Aunt (who was their surrogate [angel]), Uncle and cousins. We will also take the boys back to Kaiser Hospital's NICU where they spent the first 4 weeks of their life. Last year the doctors and nurses were so happy to see us and I got very emotional going back there. We were only the second surrogacy in the hospital's history, so they remember us vividly - not to mention we spent a MONTH there. The neonatologist and nurses were so good to us and will always hold a special place in my heart. We will also see the boys' NICU roommate Maryam ( http://maryamthemiraclemicropreemie.blogspot.com/ ) whom we became close friends with. So now I am scouring the internet for some great indoor activities to keep us sane. I might continue with a preschool schedule by doing art, music, storytime, etc.

Colors

With the below freezing temperatures this morning, the boys and I decided to not go to the library and instead, have a wonderful morning of coloring. The extra large coloring books were suppose to be a Hanukkah gift, but I decided to give it to them early. I can't believe they, at 21 months, actually sat on the floor an colored for over and hour! So far we are having another great day which always makes me so humbled for everything I have :-)

I have to take back my comment on my previous post that running errands with just one child is "easy". First of all, doing anything with a toddler is not "easy" and I don't want to take away the hard work of mothers who have one child.... child rearing is tough work period. And... after my 1:1 time with just Jackson (isn't that a Will and Grace episode "Just Jack"?) I realize it's easiER, but not easy. Tyler had a WONDERFUL time with his great Aunt and great Uncle today. Chad and I repeatedly told Tyler last night and this morning "Are you going with Aunt Linda" and he would reply "No, no - Mommy". So I was a little worried he wouldn't leave his mommy and go with them, but to much of my surprise he did! In fact, he ran out to her car, climbed up into the car seat, and blew me a kiss! I was so happy he didn't have a meltdown. We weren't completely free of meltdowns this morning. Jackson cried for almost 20 mins saying "Buba! Buba!" (a.k.a. brother). In addition to asking me "where's Buba" all morning, Jackson kept pointing to Tyler's car seat crying. It nice to know he loves his brother and my biggest wish as a mother is that they remain friends as adults; only time will tell.

Neighborhood Park

The boys and I briefly enjoyed an afternoon in the park. We had 50 degree weather (Kansas in December... that's good!), so I thought we'd enjoy it while we can. I found a cute little park nestled behind a neighborhood nearby. Jackson had a great time but unfortunately, due to Tyler's poor behavior, we had to leave after only 30 mins. I think a lot of Tyler's frustration / temper steams from his inability to fully communicate what he wants. Every day their vocabulary grows, so I'm hoping with time he can get his point across a little better. Until then, Mommy will try to translate as best she can.

Tomorrow the boys' great Aunt it taking Tyler for some one on one time! I'm so excited because this will, in return, give me some one on one time with Jackson. I also find is so incredibly easy to go shopping and run errands with only one child in tow! I'm going to fully take advantage of the morning and I know Tyler will have a blast.

Week From H#LL!

Our week from h#ll has finally ended. All four of us came down with a terrible stomach flu where we were all vomiting at the same time. Now I truly know what they mean when they say "Mom's can't get sick" or "Mothers never get a day off". The sleep deprivation and household craziness brought me back to those firs 3 months when the twins were born.... ewww... Chad nor I have fond memories of those times. But we're back and everyone is much better! We were well enough to make it to my Grandmother and Grandfather's house for Thanksgiving. My father is 1 of 13 siblings, so there was a good turnout. The best part was there were enough little kids / teenagers to be infatuated with the twins, so they were entertained all day! To top the day off, Tyler got to ride a horse! He had so much fun and literally thew a fit when he had to get off the horse. Once he gets his little mind set to something and is having a good time, he does not like to be disrupted (just ask our Mommy and Me Teacher). As a compromise, he got to wear the safety helmet around the rest of the day. Jackson wanted nothing to do with that horse, so Tyler had all the fun. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures, but we did get it on video which was great.

Happy Feet

The boys had their first Soccer Class yesterday called "Happy Feet". It's a Mommy and Me (or Daddy) class where they learn to kick the ball, stretch, and run around cones. It was soooo much fun to watch them try and do warm up stretches like Coach Andrew. I love to see them in these activities. It was a free pre-view class and I'm for surely going to sign them up this Spring. Jackson was totally into it and somewhat grasped the concept that you only kick the ball with your feet and to not touch it with your hands. Tyler loved running around the cones and doing his stretches!

Improvise

So Jackson has his infamous cough, runny nose, sneezing, wheezing bit. I think we are officially in the "yellow zone" on his Asthma Action Plan! While he's not feeling well, he really likes having his "blankie" and his thumb for comfort. So what's a little boy to do when his Mommy decides to wash his favorite blankie when he's not feeling well? We use our fleece shirt instead! You can't really see from the picture, but he has his shirt in the same hand he uses to suck his thumb. He's done this with his blankie since birth.

Brotherly Love

Yesterday I witnessed one of the most precious things I've seen that it brought me to tears. Even retelling the event to Chad at the end of the day brought tears to my eyes. Both boys were outside playing yesterday while I made lunch. Tyler was riding his police car and got too enthralled chasing a bad guy that he flipped the patty wagon and fell flat on his back. He started crying and screaming and just as I looked out the window, Jackson came running over to him saying "Buba! Buba!" (translation: Brother). Jackson flung the police car of his brother (grunting the whole time), and said "uh oh, uh oh". Once he finally was able to free Tyler, he grabbed him by the jacket and helped him to his feet. Once Tyler was standing, Jackson gave him a kiss on the check. This will be a memory I'll hold forever and I'm so grateful I was home to see it. Sniff Sniff We also met my sister, neice, and mom in Topeka to see Elmo Live! As you can see fromt he pictures of the boy's dancing, they had a fabulous time!

Wow! I don't think we could have asked for a more perfect fall day in KC! My college roommate, who is pregnant with twin girls, came over for a lunch date today (and a small glimpse into her near future). Once the boys woke up from their nap we played outside all afternoon. It was such a gorgeous day I think we are to have this nice weather through the weekend. Tomorrow we have a Pumpkin Party at Nursery School and Daddy is coming with us! I'm bringing my homemade Pumpkin Bread which means I have to wake up super early so it's fresh for class.

Redistributing the wealth

This blog is suppose to be about my children, but I guess at the end of the day the below email I received IS about my children and their future. I get tons of political emails, but this one really caught my attention: "On my way to lunch, I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." In the restaurant, my server had on an "Obama '08" button. When the bill came, I explained to the server that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need and I pointed out the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed away. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside. The homeless guy was very grateful. At the end of my redistribution experiment, I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more. I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application."

Last Year....

Last weekend we went on our annual (okay .... twice!) trip to Johnson Farm's to the pumpkin patch. I remember last year the boys were so tiny and Chad and I couldn't wait until next year to bring them. We had a lot of fun and beautiful weather. Ultimately, Jackson picked out his favorite pumpkin which now sets on our kitchen table.

A Break

Chad gave me a much needed break today and took the boys out to lunch! It was so nice to have some peace and quiet even if for only a few hours - somehow I always miss them, however.

The boys and I filled our time this morning by coloring pictures for "Mimi and Papa". I am still a huge fan of Crayola Wonder! The individuals in Crayola's Research and Marketing department are brilliant!

Cabin Fever

Our weekend has been spent in the house so all 3 of us have cabin fever by Sunday! I've been trying to come up with clever activities for us to do at home (good practice for winter!), but with them being sick and cranky, it's not working so well. Our poor family dog, Haley, has been the brunt of most their agitation.

The boys have started to wrestle with one another which I think is a hoot! Nothing like seeing brothers play and pick on one another. Tyler may be a skinny little blonde, but boy is he strong!

I think Haley is looking at me to put down the camera and save her!

ASTHMA

Since this time last year I have always wondered if Jackson had asthma as he could never seem to get rid of a cold like his brother Tyler. Most everyone (with the exception of Chad) told me I was just an "alarmist", etc. Well, I guess a mother does know her child best because he was finally diagnosed with asthma today. The doctor isn't sure if we caught it and are able to treat it early enough for him to grow out of it, but we're sure going to try. Jackson now has his very own baby inhaler which he is holding in these pictures (along with no pants and a star sticker from the doctor's office). We also have an "Asthma Plan" for when he's in Green, Yellow, and Red. Right now he's in red due to his oximitry levels being a bit low this morning and he's retracting. He's on a hefty oral Steroid twice a day as well as another in his breathing machine 3 times a day. His new diagnosis certainly has not slowed him down one bit and he seems to be acting fine!

No Place Like Home

Despite the cliche of the saying "there is no place like home", it's completely true! After being on vacation in Las Vegas with my dear husband for the last 4 days, it's so wonderful to be back home. Even lying here in my bed with my laptop is wonderful (although I am listening to both Jackson and Tyler coughing through the baby monitors).

Chad and I had a great time and as tradition has it, we saw two Cirque Du Soleil shows. We saw the most recent on by Criss Angel called "Believe" which we, and most everyone we talk to, were truly disappointed. To make that particular night even worse, we decided to splurge and have a fancy dinner at the Eiffel Tower. It, too, was a huge disappoint and a huge bill! The next night we saw Mysterie which made up for the disappointing Criss Angel show was it was amazing!

Both Chad and I were very giddy and excited getting on the plane in Las Vegas heading for KC today as we could not wait to kiss our little munchkins! My mom had them outside sitting on the steps when we drove up and it was almost like they couldn't believe their eyes! We received 10 minutes of non stop hugs and kisses from our sons - the best feeling in the world!

While we were gone my mom and Chad's mom took the boys to the Pumpkin Patch. Here are a few pictures of the adventure!

Nursery School Rocks !

Jackson and Tyler's friend, Zander. Nice hug, boys! Say "bye, bye" to the binky little Tyler..... Please!

The boys are having a wonderful time (and learning how to share) at Nursery School. Our classes are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for 90 mins and it's non-stop from start to finish! I completely notice that the twins stick together when they are on the playground or in the classroom; actually, it's more Jackson sticking close to Tyler (a.k.a "Buba"). I love the fact that they have that twin bond and will always have each other, but hopefully by kindergarten they will sprout some little wings :-).

Daddy and Mommy are leaving for a much anticipated get-away to Las Vegas this week. 4 days away from the boys is very, very hard for me, but I know they'll be in good hands with their grandma.

Connect the Dots

The boys just got over Pink Eye and we discovered today that Jackson is allergic to Amoxicilin! The poor boy woke up this morning with red dots all over his little body. I took him to Children's Mercy Urgent Care to find out he was having an allergic reaction (9 days later). Chad and I were sure he had the Chicken Pox. He seems to be doing fine except the Benadryl is making him very tired. What a couple of weeks we've had. I can't wait to get both of these boys healthy!

Labor Day BBQ and SAHM

Last week had a fantastic Labor Day BBQ. It ended up being mostly family and a couple of friends and we had a great time! There is nothing like a good summer BBQ. The best time of the night was when my 4 year old niece and 3 year old "nephew" sang karaoke (at the top of their lungs) to all the classic preschool songs outside! I'm kicking myself for not videotaping it now.

I'm also a stay at home mom / wife now! My first week has been very isolating and and un-enjoyable. Both Jackson and Tyler got Pink Eye in both eyes and Jackson an ear infection. They both still have nasty coughs, but their eyes are almost back to perfect! Unfortunately, Daddy has now come down with a cold, so that's 3 out of the 4 of us that are ill. The boys and I start our Mommy and Me Classes next week, so my hope is that they are 100% by Tuesday.

Sorry I have not been keeping the blog up to date. This has not been a good few weeks with the kiddos being ill.

New Double Jogging Stroller!

This is why I love having twin mommy friends! A friend/co-worker who is also the mother of twins tipped me off about a great double stroller. Thanks to my 209% quarterly bonus, I went out and bought this great find! We bought the Baby Trend Double Expedition Jogging Stroller with the swivel front wheel and it's fabulous! It also has two speakers in the canopy to hook my iPod to so the boys can list to Dr. Laura with me :-) Here are a couple pictures of our first stroll in our new wheels!

Jackson's First "Shiner"

Yesterday, before bed, Tyler decided to pick up the lid to our stainless steel trash can to throw to Jackson to play "catch". Jackson wasn't quite ready and the lid hit him square in the eye and gave him his first shiner. It looks a lot better this morning and you can't really tell from my camera phone! Listening to Jackson cry in pain did not slow Tyler down as he just kept right on playing and didn't know what the big deal was... We're learning what are toys and what are not!

Shopping w/ twins

Yesterday the boys and I went to the market to get groceries as we were running low on almost everything. I usually stock up as I hate to run out of things. When they were younger, I was never able to take them shopping like this as I couldn't fit both of their infant seats in the baskets, so I would have to take them out for mini trips where I could put the items in the bottom of the stroller. When I did this I think most shoppers around me thought I was shoplifting - I wasn't, I just didn't have any other way of doing things. Now the boys are much older and it's easier to get them out. Jackson always sits in front and Tyler in back. Tyler is fantastic when we go shopping and loves to just look around and be surrounded by food (see attached photos!). Jackson takes a little more entertaining and I usually have to bribe him with crackers to stay calm. Chad got to see this first hand today as we took them shopping at Sam's Club.

Park Playtime!

Friday was a beautiful day in Kansas City; I think it only got up to about 75 degrees. The boys and I headed out to park to enjoy the weather while it lasted. Public Schools have started this week so we had the playground all to ourselves. Jackson spent the time throwing woodchips on the slide, cleaning it off, and then starting over again! Tyler LOVES to swing.... Loves to swing so much that he is happy and content just sitting in the swing. When it was time to go Tyler had quite the meltdown when I took him out of the swing - it was naptime by then!

Music Class

Yes - the kid next to Jackson was picking his nose!! The boys and I had our weekly music class today. Each week the boys have so much fun at class with Miss Beth. Putting away the instruments is always a challenge as neither one is quite ready to give up their noise maker. Each class they get better and better at it. I love that the class routine and songs are relatively the same each week (although the songs will slightly change with the seasons). Jackson and Tyler know that when the music teacher pulls out the red bag full of sticks, they have to sit down. It's great to see them automatically sit down when the bag comes out. Each class begins with bubbles, so as we are walking in the classroom, they are both saying "bubbles, mama, bubbles" - It's the best! Here are a few pictures of class today!

Our new family room couch was delivered on Tuesday. Jackson and Tyler wasted no time nestling into their favorite spot to watch Sesame Street! The couch is perfect and fits in our family room nicely.

I'm not leaving Corporate America as quickly as I had thought. My boss convinced me to stick around a few weeks to help with some firewall and network changes. While the request to stay was flattering, I think it was mostly due to the fact he's down a couple resources in addition to me. My condition for staying was that he'd work extra hard to find me a part-time job at Sprint which he seems relatively confident he can accomplish. I guess only time will tell. In the meantime I'm working from home only when the boys are napping - too bad I can't continue on my full time salary like this!

It's been 3 days and I'm really, really enjoying my time with the boys. We've done something every morning. I find myself just staring at them in amazement how fast this is all happening. In 6 short months they will be 2 years old and in 3 years they'll be in kindergarten and we'll never get this time back. I'm trying hard to relish in all the memories!

Leaving Corporate America Behind!

1.5 days left and I'm leaving Full Time Corporate America behind! I'll be 30 in a couple days and this is the best gift my husband could have given me :-) I was doing a search online today of other career women who have left it behind to stay home. Summer Cold

Poor Jackson has a nasty summer cold. The poor kid cannot escape any cold bug that comes his way; he seems to be a magnet. He was up most of the evening just crying and sneezing. He likes to suck his thumb when he sleeps and could not do that because his nose was stuffed up. Today he's acting a little lethargic and I'm suppose to be in the office in an hour - yet another reason why I can't wait to be a SAHM so I don't have to fight the office vs sick child battle anymore. I may have to skip my happy hour and come home early.... we'll see how Jackson (and Daddy) do today!

7 Days and Counting!

Wow! I'm so behind on posting! Today was a work from home day. I did very little "working" as I've transferred most of my projects and don't have much to do (although I will be doing a lot of training next week) - I only have 7 work days left. I'm starting to get a ton of "Oh, no.. I hear you're leaving Sprint" work emails. Although they are nice to receive, I wonder how many are actually genuine. The ones that are probably semi-genuine, are from those whom I did most of the work for and will wonder who now on the team will get the work done without going through the corporate red tape. Last weekend was the first weekend where I didn't think about or dread going to work on Monday. I feel like a completely different and much nicer person already.

Although I did not do much work (for money) today, I was so busy with the boys. Miss Kathy, our Parents as Teachers educator, came over for her monthly visit. I know every parent has the right to think their kid is smart and I definitely fall in the category. I try my best not to make the boys perform on command, but today they were all about showing off! She was so impressed with the boys and the developmental progress they've made. In fact, she will no longer target them at their adjusted age, which is 2 months behind! Tyler had so much fun showing off all the animal sounds he can make and his very cute (but sad) attempt at dancing. Jackson was just sweet and adorable. She brought playdo and they both had a great time trying to figure out what to do with the sticky stuff.

Now it's 8:30 and I have 2 baskets of laundry that need to be put away. I'll turn on Dave Ramsey and listen as I do laundry (my new homemaker ritual!).

Tomorrow is an office day and it will be spent trying to get my co-workers up to speed on my projects. I feel sorry for them as I had about 3/4ths of our teams work, so their work load will be doubling at best. Tomorrow night a few friends and co-workers are having a going away happy hour down in the Power and Light District.... can't wait!

The above picture is of the boys eating a snack at their pinic table which is now in our kitchen. They LOVE eating there and Tyler always claims his side first! You can also see Tyler's Elmo socks which he has refused to take off for almost 36 hours now! Ahhh... I have already learned the art of picking your battles.

Climbers ....

We really need a swing set for the boys. Both of them love to climb on our chairs, couches, and into the cabinets. We've been trying to hold off until this fall when all the play equipment is drasticly cut down. I think we might have to cave in and start searching now. Appropriately, Tyler's shirt reads "I do all of my own stunts!"

Berry Picking ....

We went with our Havurah group (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chavurah) Berry Picking in Missouri today. Aside from it being incredibly hot and humid, we had a great time! Jackson and Tyler were not that much into picking the berries, but instead rolling around in the dirt. They are definitely little boys...

The Good 'Ole Days....

A recent conversation with a friend had me thinking about the "Good 'Ole Days" my parents and grandparents once spoke of. When housewives were glamorous. Husbands were dignified. Boys and girls had manners and were seen and not heard. Everyone worked hard and that was enough. Life was simple. Life was good. You could make a living doing anything. You could live the American Dream. The food you ate was safe. Children could ride their bikes around town. The pharmacist knew your name.

Does this exist anymore?

I finally quit my high paying, high stress job to spend more time with my family! I've never felt so great after leaving my bosses office this morning to deliver the news. He was so happy for me and really felt I was making the best decision for my kids and husband. He went on to tell me that him and his wife were in the same situation several years ago when their first daughter was born and his wife decided to stay home. So I really felt like he understood my struggle. Although my full time stay at home mom status will be short lived, I'm going to enjoy every minute of it! My plan is to look for a part time job in the near future.... definitely one that has less stress involved. It looks like I'll now be paid in hugs and kisses from my family rather than money for a few months. I really can't think of anything better!!

Crayola Wonder

Whomever invented the Crayola Wonder Markers that only write on the Crayola Wonder Paper is a genius in my book. The boys took their first stab at being artists yesterday. I broke out the paper and the markers and let them have at it. The 8 minute project was mostly spent by my wrestling the markers out of their mouth! I manged to get them to draw a little something and I proudly displayed it in the kitchen. I asked Tyler if his picture was for Mommy or Daddy, he said "Dada!" I also took the boys to Wonderscoope Children's Museum yesterday morning. I payed $16 for them to take the Gymboree class. Neither of them participated in the class; instead they both played with all the free equipment. Oh well... Now I know. They have a great pit full of legos which is Jackson's new fascination. I'm actually quite amazed how he'll sit down in the play room and spend 20 mins putting legos together - perhaps he'll be our engineer? We don't have much planned for the weekend but I'm debating on finishing my coffee and loading the boys up to go to Matt Ross Community Center to play in the the toddler room.

Temper Tantrums

When they say the "terrible two's", I was hoping the temper tantrums wouldn't start until then. Jackson is our son who is quite dramatic - at 17 months he is throwing himself on the floor kicking, screaming, and crying (although no tears). I can easily ignore him and keep walking which I currently do. I find the funny part is that Tyler will throw himself down right next to him and attempt to throw a tantrum right along side Jackson. They are starting to feed off one another on the bad things (like throwing food, temper tantrums, dropping sippy cups) as well as the good things (please, thank you, etc.,). Today is a work from home day and our day looks great. We're going to Wonderscope this morning and then we have Chad's birthday dinner tonight. Oh how I love Friday's!!!

Life w/ Two Toddlers!

I'm starting to see where my life is going. The last several weeks I have seen our little 4lb preemie babies turn into little boys. Tyler is running around the house constantly and Jackson is up to a moderate jog. My days are spent listening to them bang on pots and pans, taking out the tupperware, and chasing eachother with loud screams! Although our house is loud and messy, I wouldn't give it up for anything! As you can see in the attached photo, Jackson took great joy in spinning his brother around in the chair as Tyler says "Weeeeeeeee"
